Is your computer running slow? Run a DISK CLEANUP. It helps by reducing the number of unnecessary files on your hard disk by freeing up disk space and helps your computer run faster. It removes temporary files, empties the Recycle Bin, and removes a variety of system files and other items that you no longer need. Give it a try! If you are running Windows XP: Click on the Start button, click Programs, click Accessories, click System Tools, and then click Disk Cleanup.
If you are running Windowx Vista or 7: Click on the Start button, click All Programs, click Accessories, click System Tools, and then click Disk Cleanup.

With Sandy coming to hit the Mid-Atlantic area this evening, there is some tech precautions you can take.
Have flashlights available with new batteries and use them sparingly.
If you have a landline (copper line) at home, make sure you have a single line corded phone available that does not require a power adapter or batteries. This will allow you to have have phone service.
Make sure you charge your rechargeable batteries, and portable electronic devices; like cellphones, laptops, portable hot spots, tablets, and any other portable electronic devices you can use for communicating to others. If you have to use your cellphone, make sure you use it sparingly as possible to preserve power. Have cellphone car chargers available when you loose power. If you need to communicate to others, text messaging is more successful than calling. Here is a great app you can download on your smartphone to call or text for free, called Viber.
If you have to use your computer, make sure you have a very good surge protector/backup battery. While using your computer, this would also be a good time to backup your data before you loose power. If you do not need to use your computer, We highly recommend powering off your computer(s) and disconnect it from the electrical source, even if it’s connected to a surge protector. After major storms in the past, we have seen too many computers damaged even when they were turned off but still connected to a electrical source.
If you have computers at your business location, this would be a good time to turn them off and disconnect from the electrical source, especially if you know you will not be back until after the storm. Make sure your computers, battery backup and other computer devices are off the floor just in case there will be any flooding in your area.
Other than that, everyone be safe and use common sense!!

We have seen a lot of wireless keyboard and mouse combos like Adesso, IBM and many others. We were really impressed with the Logitech K400 wireless touch keyboard because it is lightweight, compact and performs well.
The K400 wireless touch keyboard comes with a USB unifying receiver, USB extender, comes with two AA batteries and the getting started instructions. The K400 wireless touch keyboard is a lot smaller than an average sized laptop keyboard which has a built-in touchpad with left and right click buttons. Also has another left click button at the top left corner of the keyboard, media hot keys, and an on/off switch to conserve the batteries.
These are the things we liked about the keyboard:
– Lightweight
– Compact
– Easy to store, space-saving
– Compatible with Windows, Linux and Mac with some limitations
– Touchpad included, no need for a seperate mouse
– Extra left click button
– Plug and play
– Tiny USB unifying receiver can connect up to six compatible unifying wireless devices
– Low-profile keys
– Media hot keys
– Batteries included
– On/off switch
– 2 year warranty
– Up to 12 month battery life depending on usage
– Wireless range up to 33 feat
– Good price of $34.99 from Newegg.com
The things we disliked about the keyboard:
– No low battery indicator
– Flimsy and fragile
– No Apple Mac drivers
– No 3 or 4 finger swipe commands for Mac computers
– Keyboard size smaller than an average laptop keyboard.
Over all, it’s a great keyboard to own especially if your using it for entertainment purposes.

If you purchased a Raspberry Pi credit card size computer, you probably want to use it with an enclosure to offer protection around the circuit board. There are many brands and models out there, but after searching we found the Adafruit Pi Box which we really like. It gives the Raspberry Pi both protection around the circuit board and also gives it a very sexy appearance displaying the components of the board.
The Pi Box is held together by clips, which Adafruit refers to them as dragon claws. This makes it easy to clip the acrylic sections together or easily remove them. You can order an Adafruit Pi Box for $14.95 from the Adafruit store. They are very popular, so there is a 5 – 10 day wait before they are back in stock. If they are out of stock, you can have Adafruit notify you via e-mail when they are back in.
Here is our video review for the Adafruit Pi Box. Enjoy!

The Raspberry Pi is a credit card sized single-board computer developed in the UK by the Raspberry Pi Foundation with the intention of stimulating the teaching of basic computer science in schools.
The Raspberry PI has a Broadcom BCM2835 system on a chip which includes a 700MHz processor, videocore IV GPU, and 256MB of RAM. The Raspberry Pi does not include a built-in hard disk, but uses an SD card for booting and long term storage. You can also install a hard disk via USB. There are two Raspberry Pi versions available, the Model A which is priced at $25.00 and Model B priced at $35.00. Model A comes with one USB 2.0 port and no ethernet port. Model B comes with two USB 2.0 ports, a 10/100 ethernet (RJ45) port, a HDMI port, a 3.5mm audio jack output and a composite RCA output.
To power the Raspberry Pi, you will need a micro USB cable and a minimum 700mA – 1200mA, 3.5w, 5v USB AC adapter. The Motorola USB phone chargers are the best ones to use because most have a rating of 700mA – 1500mA. If you are running resource intensive applications or plugged in peripherals that draw more current, make sure the mA rating is enough to support it.
Today, we will be installing Raspbian, which is the newest version of Debian, optimized for the Raspberry Pi. Applications run faster on Raspbian than other distribution of Linux ported to the Raspberry Pi. You can download Raspbian from the Raspbian’s website.
Before proceeding, you will need a USB keyboard/mouse combo, SDHC/micro SDHC memory card with a minimum of 4GB to install Raspbian. A monitor that supports either HDMI or composite RCA video cable is needed.

To limit any malware, spyware and or virus infections, take precautions when accessing the internet via you’re browser, e-mail or other avenues. We are starting to see an unusual high volume of clients getting infected within the last couple of weeks with all types of malware infections which can cause a variety of problems, such as key loggers, browser hijacking, constant advertisement bombardment, hidden\deletion of files or install other malicious programming code.
Here are some precautions you can take:
– Do not click on links in your e-mail or websites you are not familiar or not sure about. When you download files, make sure you know what your downloading and installing. Know who is sending you e-mail and do not open if your not familiar with the person or e-mail.
– Make sure you have anti-virus/anti-malware/anti-spyware software installed on your computer and make sure the definitions are updated. Run daily or weekly scans. If you cannot run updates and automatic scans, especially if you are using “free” anti-malware/spyware software, manually update, run the scans and remove infections if found.
– Install a good firewall, like “free” ZoneAlarm or just customize the built-in firewall that Microsoft XP, Vista or 7 came with.
– Make sure you are installing updates for Java, Adobe Flash, Reader and Shockwave when you get the pop-up messages, don’t ignore them.
– If you have kids, monitor their surfing habits. Kids like to play online games and a lot of online gaming sites get infected and in return infect your computer. This even pertains to other certain sites like Youtube.com, since Youtube video’s use Adobe Flash. Setup limited access account profiles for your kids so they do not start downloading infected programs. Also, set limitations for them on the web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, or Safari) so they won’t be going to bad and or infected sites.

1.) Install one of the many free malware scanners like Malwarebytes, these often come with an anti-virus package that will stop your computer becoming infected in the future.
2.) Always keep your antivirus and malware removal software updated. Most of the software packages have free updates via the internet. Most of the time with free malware software you have to update manually. Also make sure to update Java, Adobe or other like software.
3.) Never download anything that looks suspicious. Malware could come as email attachments or come packaged with legitimate software, be sure to scan everything with antivirus and malware scanners before you install anything, it’s often too late once you have clicked install.
4.) Look at the check boxes before you install anything. A lot of free software packages often have extra things they install whilst installing themselves. These are usually tool bars or some other kind of spyware.
5.) Only download from reputable sources. The Internet is like a jungle and there is many a suspicious internet marketers ready to try and force their sales page on you. Only download from trusted sources or from people who you know and trust.
