.) Install one of the many free malware scanners like Malwarebytes, these often come with an anti-virus package that will stop your computer becoming infected in the future.

.) Always keep your antivirus and malware removal software updated. Most of the software packages have free updates via the internet. Most of the time with free malware software you have to update manually. Also make sure to update Java, Adobe or other like software.

.) Never download anything that looks suspicious. Malware could come as email attachments or come packaged with legitimate software, be sure to scan everything with antivirus and malware scanners before you install anything, it’s often too late once you have clicked install.

.) Look at the check boxes before you install anything. A lot of free software packages often have extra things they install whilst installing themselves. These are usually tool bars or some other kind of spyware.

.) Only download from reputable sources. The Internet is like a jungle and there is many a suspicious internet marketers ready to try and force their sales page on you. Only download from trusted sources or from people who you know and trust.
